We traveled to Uganda in June this year, hoping to be able to dedicate the new Science Center & Library. We were a little disappointed but not totally surprised to find that the building wasn’t near ready to be dedicated. Paul and I have learned that the favorite saying in Uganda is “Hurry Slowly”, so we’ve tried to adopt it as well……at least while we’re there!
News arrived recently that the building will be completed by the end of September. It will consist of Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Computer Labs as well as a Library.
Furnishing all the labs and library will take some time but we are hopeful that the entire center will be totally ready for the opening of the 2012 school year.
Because of some very generous donors and members of my graduating Class of ’64 Bishop Ward High School in Kansas City Kansas, we have already obtained some of the equipment needed for the labs and books for the library. We’re most grateful for their generosity and continued support.
We still are in need of lots of equipment. Since we don’t have electricity at the school, the most important need is solar panels. And although they don’t have access to internet service, we would nonetheless like to be able to provide some computers for the students. They would be able to utilize them for English and Math classes. The teachers would greatly benefit from them as well.
The needs are endless but we are confident that this new Science Center & Library will be one of the premier Science Centers in the entire Pallisa school district!
